Goodbye Meta Makeover - hello Designing Worlds
Designing Worlds, formerly Meta Makeover, is the hit, live weekly show covering design and designers in the virtual worlds, brought to you by Treet.TV, Second Life’s leading cable network, and Prim Perfect productions, the people behind Prim Perfect magazine and the Prim Perfect blog. From its roots as a makeover show, the programme has now branched out into a magazine format adding interviews and visits to some of the most impressive builds and locations in Second Life and beyond.
The show goes out live every Tuesday at 2pm SLT, and is presented by Saffia Widdershins, the Editor of Prim Perfect Magazine, and Elrik Merlin of Radio Riel.
In a typical makeover-style show, we take a house and make it over, deploying up to three skilled designers – who might tackle a room each, or a floor, or a garden. They’ll be interviewed about why they’ve made the choices that they have – with the delighted (or appalled) owner having a chance to say what they love or loathe about their new home.
On other occasions, we’ll talk to home owners who have recently had their homes remodelled and the designers who helped them do it. We discuss the issues affecting design and designers working in the virtual environment, such as intellectual property and the latest design techniques, with “how-to” features for budding designers and builders. And we visit some of the most impressive builds, meet their designers and explore their work.
On every show, you’ll meet some of the top builders, creators and designers in today’s virtual worlds – and you’re guaranteed a wealth of new ideas, products and venues.
We also broadcast live from our modern state-of-the-art studios in Northpoint, SL, in front of a live audience – and when we are on location you can watch the show go out live on the big screen.
To keep up to date, bookmark this blog – and for in-world updates, click on a Meta Makeover/Designing Worlds Subscribe-a-Matic. You’ll find them in Northpoint, at Prim Perfect headquarters in Oliveto and at the Prim Perfect Offices on Venice Island.
And if you want to watch the show again, there are repeats on the Treet.TV Lifestyle channel. You can also watch it on the web at the Treet.TV website. Or you can download it from the iTunes store to watch on iTunes – or even on your iPod.
Would you like your home or your work to feature on Designing Worlds? Send an email to us with three or four pictures attached, and what you think would be of interest – that you’d like a makeover, or you’d like us to visit and look at your work. You could feature on a future programme! And if you know a special place in Second Life that we should really visit on the show, drop us a line too.
Just as in the real world, we see the beginnings of natural collaborations, which bode well for the shape of virtual worlds to come so as to slot seamlessly into our mainstream culture.
Style fashion and design, are all influenced and molded by the collective, and it will be with interest we watch the trends begin to emerge.
I for one cannot wait for the outcome as we begin to see what influences win out in the jostling for position of the ideas that influence us be they from the real world into the virtual, or the other way around, as we all wind our way to the unified world we can all see on the horizon.
Thanks to all who are working on this project as you make it easier for all of us.
