Join us today, Monday 10th November at 2pm SLT Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams for a spin – and a row and a flight and a submersion – around the mainland as we sample some of Yavanna Llanfair’s amazing podcar tours … and discover some of the hidden beauties of the mainland.

Yavanna’s podcars will be familiar to those of you who’ve visited the Second Life Birthday events, and we’ve talked to her before about the tours she has created – but this time we’re going to be trying out some of her mainland tours for ourselves, with Yavanna as our expert guide!

We actually try out three tours: the first taking us to Sansara Seas and Rivers, one of nine tours available from Yavanna’s podcar hub on the Sansara continent; a fascinating tour on the little-visited teen grid (where the podcar turns into a ski lift – and then grows a ski to take us back down the mountain!); and a trip round the islands  of north western Maebaleia on the Southern Nautilus tour, one of two tours on the Maebaleia or Datori continent. And we also take a look at a fascinating railcar tour on the Heterocera continent!

Yavanna is a keen proponent of the mainland and she shares with us some of the extraordinary creations you can see on her tours, and learn more about the work that not only residents have done, but also that Linden Lab has done – and continues to do – in making the mainland an unexpectedly fascinating – and often beautiful – place to visit. And to help you discover more, you’ll find maps at each starting location that will help you discover further tours to try.

Join us today – for a show that will really open your eyes to the extraordinary mainland!

Or – if you can’t attend in person – tune in to the web at 2pm SLT on Monday for a showing on SLartist or on Treet – or catch it later in the week on our shows page on the Treet.tv web site at http://treet.tv/shows/designingworlds, on the SLArtist.com channel,  the Aview TV Designing Worlds channel – or on the Designing Worlds blog.

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – our visit to Rocky Valley HighSchool – is now on the web.

This show might be nostalgic for some, and an American icon for others – the world of High School – and you can visit Rocky Valley High School here.

In this show we step into the world of jocks and cheerleaders, nerds and plastics, as we visit an American High School. We see the classes, the social activities and the sports, and we learn some of the reasons why people enjoy re-living their teen years, hang-ups, hang-outs, heartaches and all! There are other roles you can play in the community, and we learn something about that too from our two hosts – Kate Watson, Admissions Administrator and Michele Sabetha, Captain of the Cheer Squad.

And the community itself has a wider role to play. We first met the cheerleaders of Rocky Valley High School at Relay for Life when they had a campsite opposite the telethon studio and were doing enthusiastic cheers all weekend!

Join us today, Monday 3rd November at 2pm SLT Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams for what might be nostalgic for some, and an American icon for others – the world of High School – as we pay a visit to Rocky Valley High School!

In the past we’ve visited family communities and camps, even a school for younger children. This week we step into the world of jocks and cheerleaders, nerds and plastics, as we visit an American High School. We see the classes, the social activities and the sports, and we learn some of the reasons why people enjoy re-living their teen years, hang-ups, hang-outs, heartaches and all!

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – our Halloween special, a trip to one of the moodiest and most sinister regions on the grid: the town of Innsmouth – is now on the web.

Innsmouth is a fascinating region – based on the horror stories of HP Lovecraft (whom many call the most influential horror writer of the 20th century), it has plenty of mysterious and hidden places to explore – all in the tradition of Lovecraft’s mysterious New England coastal towns. It was also, of course, an important location in Season 1 of The Blackened Mirror (as we shall learn).

But more recently, Innsmouth has been in danger of being lost. A campaign has begin to save this wonderful region by its supporters, led by Arik Metzger., who – together with Terra Volitant – joins us on the show.

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – where we explore the fascinating and diverse mainland community of East River – is now on the web.

The East River community is located on the Sansara Continent, just to the North of the Sea of Fables, and it’s a remarkable place – and a remarkable achievement too.

Because what makes this community so fascinating is that it’s not part of an island estate, privately owned and managed with a Covenant to make sure that there is consistency. This is a mainland community, created by residents coming together and protecting a tract of land that now covers nineteen sims, all brought together as the East River Community.

With the assistance of a longtime resident, Drewski Northman, we explore some of the residential and commercial areas, the art that forms an important part of the community, and aome of the amazing transportation systems that link the community.
