The latest episode of Designing Worlds – where we look back at the stunning builds that we saw at the Relay for Life of Second Life weekend at the end of July – is now on the web.

Sadly, we only had time to visit a few of the great builds, and talk to a small number of the talented creators behind them – we just wish we could have shown everything. Thankfully, our wonderful photographer Wildstar Beaumont was on hand to ensure that we have many more on our slide show!

Yes, Designing Worlds is back for a whole new season – and we’re inviting you to to join us today, Monday 8th September at 2pm SLT at the Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams as we look back at the stunning builds that we saw at the Relay for Life of Second Life weekend at the end of July.

Sadly, we only had time to visit a few of the great builds, and talk to a small number of the talented creators behind them – we just wish we could have shown everything. Thankfully, our wonderful photographer Wildstar Beaumont was on hand to ensure that we have many more on our slide show!

Wildstar and Saffia were both thrilled to be awarded two of the first ever Community Champion Awards at the Wrap Up for this year’s Relay for Life of Second Life.  The other recipients of this award were Stingray Raymaker and Daniel Voyager.  Saffia says: “That’s very awesome company for me to be keeping! I was so privileged to receive this award – working with Relay for Life of Second Life is not just a pleasure, it’s a privilege.”

Saffia also won another award – Smell the Roses – The Clown Awards – for her Twerking for a Cause. This was a moment at the telethon captured by Petlove Petshop. She was wearing my dinkie avatar (a cute little cat) for one of the hours and someone mentioned the fact that Saffia could twerk as a dinkie. So it was agreed that if the telethon team raised 10,000 Lindens (the Second Life virtual currency – it would be about US440) by the top of the hour, the dinkie would twerk. By the top of the hour, people watching the telethon had donated a total of 22,000 lindens (around US$90) and … the dinkie twerked.

And in other video news, Elrik and Saffia were challenged to the Ice Bucket challenge by Nikki Mathieson. You can see the results below!

Saffia and Elrik decided to donate their challenge to the charity Water Aid. Saffia says – “Here in the UK, it’s become customary to choose which charity to donate your Ice Bucket challenge to. While we are both supportive of the work done by ALS, we decided that we would like to raise awareness of a charity connected with clean water – something we wish as a blessing for people at the end of every Designing Worlds show. We’re therefore making our donation to Water Aid – and you can read here about the impact that Ice Bucket Challenges are having on the work of this vitally important nonprofit. And we’re proud to say no real water was wasted in our taking the challenge!*”

This is a fun and beautiful start to our new season – make sure that you don’t miss it!

Or – if you can’t attend in person – tune in to the web at 2pm SLT on Monday for a showing on SLartist or on Treet – or catch it later in the week on our shows page on the Treet.tv web site at http://treet.tv/shows/designingworlds, on the SLArtist.com channel,  the Aview TV Designing Worlds channel – or on the Designing Worlds blog.

Casa – the new initiative for homes and gardens – opens today – and you can see the Designing Worlds show about it on the web!

Created by Reven Rosca of PRIME and Meshopotamia, and Kaerri Rae of Kaerri launched Casa today, Friday 1st August 2014, with a collection of high end stores and designs in the Home and Garden market, as well as the work of several artists.

And there will be a Grand Opening Party on Saturday 2nd August at 2pm at Casa.

Make sure you watch the show too – where you can see what Cain Maven’s new home on Casa looks like furnished, according to some of the ideas discussed on the show, as we explore how we can define quality in a virtual market. And we learn more about mesh templates and how they can be used in building. And there are some thoughts on the gacha phenomenon too – which will be the subject of an article in the next issue of Prim Perfect – part of our exciting relaunch (of which more soon!).

Join us this Wednesday, July 2nd at 1pm SLT,for a special recording in the Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams for a discussion about Second Life’s continued viability and the ways in which Linden Lab might attract existing communities to their new platform.

Designing Worlds studio

Designing Worlds studio

We have a great panel of guests who will be live in the studio with us – including Jessica Lyon, Project Manager of Firestorm (who will be fresh from her own earlier Question and Answer session with Oz and Peter Linden), Jo Yardley, owner of 1920s Berlin, Maxwell Graf, owner of Rustica. JJ Drinkwater, Virtual and real life Librarian and Pathfinder Lester, Community Engagement specialist (and the ex-Pathfinder Linden).

We won’t be talking about the technical possibilities of the new platform; instead we’ll be focussing on what needs to be donne to keep Second Life vibrant and alive … and, at the same time, what might persuade the residents of Second Life to make a commitment to a new environment – and some of the answers may be surprising!

But you will also have the opportunity to having your thoughts and ideas discussed by the panel, either by coming along and joining the live audience, or by posting your thoughts and ideas in comments on this post.

This show will be recorded and shown again on July 14th.
