Venexia

Venexia

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 29th October, for the new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams as we visit the darkly beautiful region of Venexia for a really gorgeous Halloween show special.

Venexia is an adult roleplay sim with a vampire theme. It’s set in a time when La Serenissima, the beautiful Venice that inspired this region, was at the height of its power and, some would suggest, its decadence. This stunningly lovely region, created by Baal Zobel and  Kora Zenovka, certainly promises both power and decadence, and the enthusiastic patrons have evolved a rich and complex roleplay, befitting the surroundings.

Visitors can join in or, if they wish to remain out of character, can simply visit (although we’d recommend you adapt a suitable costume to allow you to discreetly blend with your surroundings).

In the company of the Contessa Seabreeze  (who is, under another name, an old friend of the show!), Nena Easterwood and Amberlyssa Marie Bauerhoff, we explore some of the beautiful locations and discuss some of the roles and traditions that are practised in Venexia.

All this – and a Vampire Ball to attend; very appropriate for Halloween!

It makes for a very dark and very beautiful show. So do come and join us at 2pm!

Come and explore the work of the Mayo Clinic in Second Life with Designing Worlds, now on the web and see some of the many ways it is using the grid for a variety of different programs from actualization to education and familiarization.

Showing us some of the projects that the Mayo Clinic has undertaken is Brian Kaihoi, known in Second Life as Svea Morane, the Mayo clinic contact who has initiated much of the Mayo Clinic’s presence in virtual worlds. He’ll be explaining the thinking behind many of the designs we see, and explaining how much healthcare can benefit from a virtual presence – both on a professional level for healthcare workers, and on a mutual support level with self-help groups.

Our latest show in Inworldz is now on the web!

Join us as we journey to a different grid – Inworldz – to explore a very special new event in progress there – Relay for Life of Inworldz, which will reach its climax with a Relay Weekend on the 3rd and 4th November.

Although Relay for Life of Second Life is a huge event and raises millions of Lindens for the American Cancer Society every year, this is the first time that a full Relay program has been run in the much smaller Inworldz grid, with the backing of the ACS, and it’s fascinating to see how things are developing there – in some ways very similarly to the early Relay for Life in Second Life events.

We yalk to some of those involved, and some familiar names from Second Life (and from Relay for Life in Second Life), including Bain Finch, Nber Medici, and the well-known DJ Ayron Dagger, who spoke so movingly about a renewed fight against cancer during the Telethon this July.  And wealso chat with  Elenia Llewellyn, both about this event, and about how things are progressing in Inworldz.

Our enthralling programme about Pathfinding in Second Life – with discussions with Lorca, Falcon and Maestro Linden, and examples demostrated by Sandry Logan of the Virtual Kennel Club – is now available on the web!

This show was recorded in the Designing Worlds studio a couple of weeks ago – and provided an opportunity for interested residents to come along and have their questions answered.  And Lorca joined us for the show on Monday when he not only answered residents’ questions, but also shared the results of an interesting new survey – Linden Lab have analysed the results of whether enabling dynamic pathfinding on a region causes a slowdown in fps (i.e. causes degraded performance) They’ve discovered that the impact seems to make little appreciable difference. Inara Prey has all the details on her blog here.

This show was recorded in the Designing Worlds studio a couple of weeks ago – and provided an opportunity for interested residents to come along and have their questions answered.  Lorca Linden is planning to join us or the screening today, and will once more be ready to answer any questions residents have – so don’t miss this great opportunity!

You can now see our exciting – and very moving – show about firefighting on the web as we pay a visit to the region of Aero Pines, to see Cindy Bolero and her amazing team of firefighters at work.

Aero Pines Park, as a region, has many of the features of a National Park (including a range of exciting leisure activities), but what we looked at in the show is the training for emergency services that is also a feature of the region, and exploring the ways in which Second Life and virtual worlds offers training potential for people working in hazardous situations.

Firefighters - and Commemoration

Firefighters – and Commemoration

Among other things, we see how a team tackles a fire in a restaurant – a very practical demonstration!  We also look at the stair climb that Cindy has created, which commemorates the firefighters who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001, in the attack on the World Trade Center in New York, and which has become a place of commemoration of all the victims of that appalling day – and of all firefighters who have lost their lives in the course of their duties.  Based on the real life stairclimb tributes, it forms a very moving experience.
