You can now see Designing Worlds’ visit to Temasek, the Second Life region inspired by Singapore, on the web!

Veritas Raymaker, owner and developer of Temasek, has brought something of the history, geography and ecology, and the culture of Singapore into the virtual world.  Ranging from Mangrove swamps and a fishing village to a second world war fort (complete with an aerial attack!) to Concorde and modern builds … and not forgetting a look at traditional food on the way … this is a very rich and exciting environment to explore!

Elrik Merlin was on holiday when the show was shot, so Saffia is joined by Zander Greene as co-presenter as Veritas takes us on a journey around his island from the tunnels beneath to high in the sky!

And this is not the only fascinating build that Veritas is involved with – he also supports the First World War Digital Poetry Archive region, taking it over when the University of Oxford project was coming to an end – and, in the show, we remind ourselves of that iconic build too.

You can now see Designing Worlds’ celebration on Thanksgiving (and The Blackened Mirror) on the web!

Good friends, fun projects, and food as Elrik and Saffia meet with Aisling Sinclair (Designing Worlds producer) and Zander Greene to discuss machinima and what is involved in creating the popular treet tv series, The Blackened Mirror. And, of course, we all enjoy a gorgeous meal (courtesy of Pamela Galli’s La Galleria designs) on Aisling’s deck.

Celebrating Thanksgiving in Second Life

Celebrating Thanksgiving in Second Life

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 19th November, for the new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams. This week our friends in the United States will be celebrating Thanksgiving, so we decided to have our annual Thanksgiving meal on the show – which gives us a chance to sit round the table for a discussion. Elrik and Saffia meet with Aisling Sinclair (the show’s producer) and Zander Greene to discuss machinima and what is involved in creating the popular treet tv series, The Blackened Mirror.  And, of course, we all enjoy a gorgeous meal (courtesy of Pamela Galli’s La Galleria designs) on Aisling’s deck.

It’s a lovely setting – and a fascinating discussion about how far the boundaries of machinima can be stretched – and there are a few behind the scenes stories too! So do come and join us at 2pm!

You can now see Designing Worlds’ celebration of the fabulous Burn2 in Second Life on the web!

Last month we took our cameras to the amazing Burn2, the annual art festival which is, of course, inspired by the Burning Man Festival, held annually in the Nevada desert – and this show is the outcome of what we found there!

We travel from the entrance (based on the real life entrance in the Black Rock desert) to visit the Burning Man, the temple – and some of the stunning installations on display – including something very green to find in a desert!

The theme was fertility … and we think you’ll be fascinated to see what the various artists have made of that!

You can now see Designing Worlds’ spectacular survey of fireworks in virtual worlds on the web!

There’s a little history – including Elrik’s very first appearance on the show (which was called Meta Makeover then) when he talked about firework traditions – back in 2008.

There are lovely displays from a variety of fireworks makers – including Freddie Bleac, Damanios Thetan and Loki Eliot, with displays staged by Elizabeth Tinsley, Marianne McCann and Loki Eliot – and we see how the ChangHigh Trinity sisters use fireworks in their amazing routines.

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 5th November, for the new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams. It’s the 5th of November – the day when the UK celebrates the defeat of a plot by religious extremists to blow up the Houses of Parliament (the year was 1605 and the religious extremists were Roman Catholics – which does rather demonstrate that this sort of thing has been around for rather a long time).

In the United Kingdom, we celebrate with Firework Parties – a popular name for the celebrations is “Bonfire Night”. So we decided to celebrate on Designing Worlds by taking a look at Second life fireworks, and how they are used.

You can now see Designing Worlds’ visit to the dark and beautiful world of Venexia on the web!

Venexia is an adult roleplay sim with a vampire theme. It’s set in a time when La Serenissima, the beautiful Venice that inspired this region, was at the height of its power and, some would suggest, its decadence. This stunningly lovely region, created by Baal Zobel and  Kora Zenovka, certainly promises both power and decadence, and the enthusiastic patrons have evolved a rich and complex roleplay, befitting the surroundings.

Visitors can join in or, if they wish to remain out of character, can simply visit (although we’d recommend you adapt a suitable costume to allow you to discreetly blend with your surroundings).

In the company of the Contessa Seabreeze  (who is, under another name, an old friend of the show!), Nena Easterwood and Amberlyssa Marie Bauerhoff, we explore some of the beautiful locations and discuss some of the roles and traditions that are practised in Venexia.
