Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday25th February, for our new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams as we visit the beautiful estate of the Coeurs, sometimes called the Duchy, a series of fourteen French baroque regions, each named after a specific region in France.

This is, however, not the highly formalised world of the Court, nor the seething poverty that led to the French Revolution, but a gentle and gracious style of rural living, with the bourgeoisie and the haut bourgeoisie living in beautiful surroundings with beautiful small towns and elegant homes, graced by the occasional chateau.

We are joined on the show by two of the owners of the estate, His Grace the Duke and one of the two Duchesses of the Coeurs – but we have permission to introduce them by their less formal names, as Bedrich Panacek and SkyeRyder Varriale!

In their company, we explore museums, canals, courtyards and carriage rides – because the Duchy has one of the most elegant systems of transportation anywhere in Second Life, as residents can order carriages to come to their door and take them anywhere in the estate.  Or – like Elrik – some might prefer to travel by boat and see the amazing locks, based of locks designed by Leonardo da Vinci.

It makes for a fun and fascinating show – so do come and join us at 2pm.

And this show features what be one of our most stunning sequences ever as Elrik and Reiko board a shuttle and travel down to the surface of the planet – gloriously shot and sublimely edited by Elrik. You really, really should watch the show for that sequence alone!

Now available on the web – our latest episode, as we visit the beautiful – and endangered – region of Arcachon Atlantique.

#DW188 Arcachon – 11th February 2013 from Saffia Widdershins on Vimeo.

Arcachon Atlantique is the beautiful Francophone region based on the Languedoc region of France, which has recently come close to closure, despite offering great activities and developing a brilliant immersive language learning programme.

In this show, we explore some of the beauties of the region with Claire Pascale, the owner of Arcachon and with Cybère Placebo, who has been working on developing language courses, as well as Karelia Kondor, a teacher of French in the UK, who has used the region of Arcachon in her teaching.

We explore the region, discussing the plans to use it as an immersive language resource, and also experience some of the activities it offers, from wine tasting, to a hot air balloon trip, to harvesting (and enjoying!) fresh oysters.

And we’ll be looking at the problems owners face in sustaining such a region.

Now available on the web – our latest episode, as we explore a new region with a decidedly Vintage Retro theme.

The name of the region is Old Time Prims (as the owner of the region, Mila Edelman, is also the owner of that well known vintage store), but it is also known as Vintage Retro. It is drawing together a wealth of vintage and retro commercial ventures – and some that actually cross boundaries into real life, as we discover on the show.

Modelled on a bustling vintage European city, with echoes of Munich, Vienna and Budapest, it provides an intriguing home for a number of stores and vintage locations.  Mila will be giving us a guided tour and an insight into how smaller stores with a strong theme can help one another – and themselves too!
