The latest episode of Designing Worlds – our special Thanksgiving celebration – is now on the web.

This year, we’ve invited some of the people with roles to play behind the camera – Aisling Sinclair, our director, Wildstar Beaumont, our photographer, and LaPiscean Liberty, owner of SLArtist and Aview TV, two of the channels that screen Designing Worlds. They will be talking about their many projects and the fun things they have been doing. Aisling hosts the event in her beautiful new home, designed by Pamela Galli of La Galleria – and Pamela also supplied the amazing dining table too!

And we are also joined by Elizabeth Tinsley, the organiser of Fantasy Faire, who has some very exciting news about the Fantasy Faire calendar which – very shortly – you’ll be able to obtain in Second Life – and in real life too – with profits going to support Relay for Life in Second Life. And here is one of the THREE choices of covers that you can have for your calendar!

Also this week’s photographs are very special; as fans of the Prim Perfect Jigsaw will already know, rather than sending Wildstar to photograph a location this week, we asked him to choose his favourite photographs from all the years that he has been taking pictures for the show … What has he chosen? You’ll have to watch the show to find out – but here’s a sneak peek!

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – where we find out all about an amazing Second Life tool called Rescene (developed by Logan Bauer of  Arctic Greenhouse) – is now on the web.

Logan originally developed ReScene as a result of a hunt game he created, but then he realised that it could be used for tours and games, and, perhaps above all, for film-making. We certainly agreed – Rescene played a crucial part in staging The Blackened Mirror.

We’ll talk to Logan about how Rescene works, and then we look at Rescene in work, with the aid of Terra Volitant who was Rescene Director for The Blackened Mirror. There are samples of different projects – including a test run of a mermaid ballet that is a work in progress.

And there’s a very special treat for all Blackened Mirror fans as we preview a Director’s commentary of Episode 1 of Season 2, explaining how we made the show.

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – wherein we sample some of Yavanna Llanfair’s amazing podcar tours … and discover some of the hidden beauties of the mainland – is now on the web.

Yavanna’s podcars will be familiar to those of you who’ve visited the Second Life Birthday events, and we’ve talked to her before about the tours she has created – but this time we tried out some of her mainland tours for ourselves, with Yavanna as our expert guide!

Yavanna is a keen proponent of the mainland and she shared with us some of the extraordinary creations you can see on her tours, and we learnt more about the work that not only residents have done, but also that Linden Lab has done – and continues to do – in making the mainland an unexpectedly fascinating – and often beautiful – place to visit. And to help you discover more, you’ll find maps at each starting location that will help you discover further tours to try.

We actually try out three tours – and here are links for you to be able to take the tours for yourselves!  The first took us to Sansara Seas and Rivers, one of nine tours available from Yavanna’s podcar hub on the Sansara continent; the second was a fascinating tour on the little-visited teen grid (where the podcar turns into a ski lift – and then grows a ski to take us back down the mountain!); and finally we took a trip round the islands  of north western Maebaleia on the Southern Nautilus tour, one of two tours on the Maebaleia or Satori continent. And we also took a brief look at a fascinating railcar tour on the Heterocera continent – which would allow you to start exploring Second Life railways! But don’t just confine yourselves to the tours we took – there are many more fascinating areas to be discovered.

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – our visit to Rocky Valley HighSchool – is now on the web.

This show might be nostalgic for some, and an American icon for others – the world of High School – and you can visit Rocky Valley High School here.

In this show we step into the world of jocks and cheerleaders, nerds and plastics, as we visit an American High School. We see the classes, the social activities and the sports, and we learn some of the reasons why people enjoy re-living their teen years, hang-ups, hang-outs, heartaches and all! There are other roles you can play in the community, and we learn something about that too from our two hosts – Kate Watson, Admissions Administrator and Michele Sabetha, Captain of the Cheer Squad.

And the community itself has a wider role to play. We first met the cheerleaders of Rocky Valley High School at Relay for Life when they had a campsite opposite the telethon studio and were doing enthusiastic cheers all weekend!

In the past we’ve visited family communities and camps, even a school for younger children. The latest episode of Designing Worlds – our Halloween special, a trip to one of the moodiest and most sinister regions on the grid: the town of Innsmouth – is now on the web.

Innsmouth is a fascinating region – based on the horror stories of HP Lovecraft (whom many call the most influential horror writer of the 20th century), it has plenty of mysterious and hidden places to explore – all in the tradition of Lovecraft’s mysterious New England coastal towns. It was also, of course, an important location in Season 1 of The Blackened Mirror (as we shall learn).

But more recently, Innsmouth has been in danger of being lost. A campaign has begin to save this wonderful region by its supporters, led by Arik Metzger., who – together with Terra Volitant – joins us on the show.
