We take a trip to New Babbage – a rather chilly one too, if all the reports we’ve heard about the coal shortage are true!

What could possibly go wrong in New Babbage at Christmas?

What could possibly go wrong in New Babbage at Christmas?

Now, our trips to that industrial steampunk city have not been entirely without incident in the past – what with murders, dangerous dark mermaids, mendacious Santas and purloined diamonds … to say nothing of Elrik being mistaken for Sherlock Holmes, or that time we discovered the dark secrets under the lost Asylum …

But really, we’re visiting libraries this time! What could possibly go wrong?

Of course, we have failed to reckon with the Most Dangerous Book in New Babbage (kept under strict guard in a few Babbage libraries).

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – where we we talk to Troy and Danger Linden to learn all about the new experience tools provided by Linden Lab – and get a chance to try them out in The Cornfield and at Loki Eliot’s Escapades – is now on the web.

In a fascinating and fun show we talk to Troy Linden and Danger Linden about what these new experience tools are, how creators can use them, how users can join in the experiences, and how they can be protected. And we discover that – even though the tools are still in beta – a surprising number of Experiences have already been created by Second Life residents, including art installations, educational applications, and gaming experiences.

And we have a chance to try out the game Linden Lab have created in The Cornfield to demonstrate how experience tools work!

Then we head for Escapades Island where Loki Eliot, the talented creator of a wealth of cool things (including the central stage at this year’s Second Life Birthday Community Celebration – has created a great series of games using the new tools, and we talk to him about how he is finding the new tool set, as well as trying the games out – or rather some of them!
