Join us at 2pm today, Monday 25th May for an episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams, when we’ll be showing a repeat of our show on one of the best known Dr Who/Timelord roleplay regions of New Gallifrey.
The word “adult” can mean many things – primary is, perhaps, behaving like grown ups. This sometimes seems to be forgotten when Adult is applied to ratings, in film, tv, or games, where Adult is sometimes treated as meaning “extreme sexual and violent content”. And this mis-conception is extended to Second Life regions too.
Well, no. In many cases, Adult means Adults (i.e. grown ups) making the decision that they may, occasionally, want to show a naked image. Or actually use swear words in chat. Or that they don’t actually want to have to worry about these things at all, and using the Adult definition means you don’t have to. You’ve created a place for grown ups.
And such a place is New Gallifrey (as Honour McMillan has pointed out in her article on this issue: http://bit.ly/1JR1T9I – which is well worth a read).
This region houses several timelords’ privates Tardises (Tardes, perhaps?) but also the Panopticon, the focal point for the adventures of the Timelords who, after the Time War, found themselves trapped in Second Life. Time travel adapts rather well to Second Life – but in this episode we’ll be concentrating on New Gallifrey itself. The old Panopticon, which we visited way back in 2008 was destroyed as part of a summerlong storyline. Now the new New Gallifrey has emerged, and it really is spectacular.
We are given a guided tour by Sen Pixie, former Lord President of the High Council of New Gallifrey, Kylie Todriya, who in the New Gallifrey multiverse is the Pythia of the Sisterhood of the Jade Dreamers, and also Chancellor of New Gallifrey, and Rowan Thursday, the High Seeress of New Gallifrey and also Sister Dreamweaver to the Pythia. They are also the primary builders of this magnificent edifice, and of the landscape that surrounds it.
Then we are given a tour of the darkly stylish Tardis belonging to David Abbot, aka Deimos, head of the Celestial Intervention Agency.
This is a show for everyone who loves good design, the potential for roleplay in Second Life and – of course – the universe of Dr Who! So join us, at 2pm today, to travel once more through time and space.
Or – if you can’t attend in person – tune in to the web at 2pm SLT on Monday for a showing on SLartist or on Treet – or catch it later in the week on our shows page on the Treet.tv web site at http://treet.tv/shows/designingworlds, on the SLArtist.com channel, the AviewTV Designing Worlds channel – or on the Designing Worlds blog.
