The latest episode of Designing Worlds – where we visit the sumptuous Angel Manor Estate in the company of its owner and creator, Kaya Angel. – is now on the web.
(Please note that this may take a little time to load)
The Estate consists of nine regions that contain public areas including the famous Rose Theatre, the Rose Art Gallery, a ballroom, an opera house, a library, and function rooms of many kinds including a fabulous Banqueting Hall. There are residential apartments and some private homes set in the beautiful gardens that surround the central buildings.
The design work is fabulous. The core buildings are reminiscent of a Hapsburg palace; the entrance to the main building reminded me of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, and the magnificence extends to the rooms within. The Art Gallery is fascinating; it seems closer to the much-missed Dresden Gallery than to most art galleries in Second Life – and proves unequivocally that there is a place for realism within a virtual world.
We will be exploring some of the main function rooms with Kaya Angel and looking at the techniques and the underlying philosophy that has gone into their creation, looking at the beautiful private apartment belonging to a long term resident, Marcus Lefevre, and exploring the gardens, formal, informal and Japanese!
