The latest episode of Designing Worlds – where we remember the life and work of Soliel Snook, a popular Second Life resident – is now on the web.
(Please note that this may take a little time to load)
Soliel was a longstanding resident of Caledon and the Steamlands in Second Life, well known for her love of music and her long term association with Radio Riel, as well as her love of plants and landscaping. She opened her first Garden Centre – Snook’s Garden Centre, in Caledon – and quickly became a popular source for bouquets, bushes, hedges and flowers of all kinds. She appeared several times on MetaMakeover, the precursor to Designing Worlds.
When Soliel died recently of cancer, her friends, led by Gabriel Riel with Otenth Paderborn, Loken Jewell, Rudolfo Woodget, Aoife Lorefield, Podruly Peccable, and Edwina Heron, created a very special island memorial that consists of a series of gardens or groves, one for each year of Soliel’s Second Life, from 2007 – 2015. In the show, we explore the gardens and talk about Soliel and our memories of her, and we are joined by one of her friends, Otenth Paderborn, who shares his memories of Soliel too.
Perhaps her favourite creation was Giverny, the region she created in tribute to Monet and his work. There’s a brief excerpt from our programme on Giverny and other shows which feature Soliel herself on today’s show.
