1920s Berlin - looking down Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg Gate

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 28th January, for our new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams as we explore a really fascinating region – a thoughtful and incredibly detailed recreation of 1920s Berlin.

This is a fascinating slice of history. Weimar Germany was a place of immense social deprivations, and great wealth, a time of fiery politics, riots, rebellions and the growth of political parties that would dominate the coming decades.  But it was also a time of enormous artistic creativity in art, architecture and the comparatively new medium of film. It was also a time of tremendous decadence – a time when all sorts of previously hidden or repressed behaviours were permitted, sometimes encouraged … and often viewed on the stages and in the cabarets.

All of this vibrant life takes place in a beautiful European city – a city also teeming with slums and a vibrant working class culture.

Jo Yardley, the creator of 1920s Berlin, talks about all this and more as she gives them a fascinating guided tour of the region with a soundtrack of authentic music of the era.

It’s a show you really won’t want to miss! So do come and join us at 2pm – and see how the Designing Worlds studio has acquired a Bierkeller!

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 26th November, for the new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams where we’ll be exploring the island of Temasek with its owner, Veritas Raymaker.

Temasek is inspired by the island of Singapore, and Veritas has brought something of the history, geography and ecology, and the culture of Singapore into the virtual world.  Ranging from Mangrove swamps and a fishing village to a second world war fort (complete with an aerial attack!) to Concorde and modern builds … and not forgetting a look at traditional food on the way … this is a very rich and exciting environment to explore!

Elrik Merlin was on holiday when the show was shot, so Saffia is joined by Zander Greene as co-presenter as Veritas takes us on a journey around his island from the tunnels beneath to high in the sky!

All this makes for a fascinating show – so make sure that you don’t miss it! Do come and join us at 2pm!

Join us today, Monday 12th March at 2pm SLT in our beautiful studio in Garden of Dreams when we will be broadcasting a stunningly beautiful show, exploring the lovely Alchemy Immortalis region.

Based on rural Ireland (with a lovely French twist in one particularly delicious area!), the sims feature the green and open landscapes, the stone walls and the awesome seascapes that are a feature of Ireland.  There are trails for walking or horse riding – and there’s also a series of wonderful roadster tours that one can take – as Elrik does – while Saffia explores a fascinating community project that Alchemy and Immortalis Cyannis, owners and designers of the region, are developing for their residents.

And Saffia also visits that … mmmm … patisserie!

We talk to Alchemy Cyannis about the beautiful regions she and Immortalis have created, their inspirations and their plans as we explore this unique and lovely region.

And then, of course, there are those sheep …

Join us in our Northpoint studio at 2pm SLT today, Monday 7th February as we re-visit the Linden Home programme, nearly one year after its inception in February 2010. And this time we’ll be looking at it from the perspective of designers who are creating for Linden Homes – and also looking at some of the ways residents have chosen to furnish their Homes, too.  One thing we can promise you – none of the homes we visit with have what Saffia laments as bad Linden Home style: a sofa, a flat screen TV, a cuddle rug, a sex bed and a potted plant!

Our first visit takes us to a very special Linden Home indeed.  You may recall that at the end of last year, Samantha Hellmann won the Second Spaces Home Hotshot contest. Part of her prize was the chance to create a Linden Home design for Prim Perfect magazine – and she will be appearing on the show to tell us all about the Home she has created – and the contest, too!  And Elle Kirshner of Second Spaces will also be on the show to tell us about the contest – and the Linden Home that SHE designed!

Then we’ll be visiting two designer Linden Homes.  Froukje Hoorenbeek of Dutchie maintains hers as a showhome, and we’ll be paying a visit to that. Then we’ll be visiting a home furnished by Dellybean North of True North Designs, and talking to the resident owner about that.

There will also be images from homes designed by Elle Kirshner, by Colleen Desmoulins of  The Loft, by Ponsonby Low of P Low Low P Studio (who has done some astonishing things with the Wizard’s Retreat), and from Jolie Serendipity and Xyrah Xue, both of who show what residents can make of a Linden Home – in very different ways!

Finally, we’ll be talking to Cain Maven of Maven Homes and Quantum Destiny Luxury Homes who will be talking to us about his ideas for some of the ways in which the Linden Home Initiative can be moved forward.

The Designing Worlds show starts at 2pm SLT, but you should be in our Northpoint studios by 1.30pm at the very latest to make sure of getting a seat. And this is a show that you really will want to come to in person, because there will be beautiful gifts from some of the designers appearing on today’s show – including a beautiful home!  And there will be a chance to talk to the people you will be seeing on the show when we all come back to the studio.

Or – if you can’t attend in person – tune in at 2pm SLT on Monday for the live show – where you can now chat with other audience members and even some of the participants during the show – or catch it later in the week on our shows page on the Treet.tv web site.

In this episode we visited the fantastic home created by pitsch Parz of UrbanizeD, using a house designed by Danny Bourne of reBourne Prefabs, set in the beautiful SkyBeam Estates region.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

It’s a fabulous home, and for the next month, you will be able to visit it – as well as seeing pitsch and Danny talking on the show about the work that went into its creation.  And – if you do visit – make sure you collect the little gifts that pitsch has left there – and that you try out his wonderful animations!

In addition, you’ll be able to read more about the house, pitsch and the beautiful Skybeam Estates in the new issue of Prim Perfect – which will be out very shortly!

Join us in our Northpoint studio at 2pm SLT today, Monday 24th January for the start of our new season as we explore the most amazing avatars we think you’ll see in Second Life as we pay a visit to the famous Grendel’s Children store, and the Avaria region.

Inside Grendel's Children store

Inside Grendel's Children store

We’ll be talking to Flea Bussy and Toady Nakamura, two of the key people behind Grendel’s Children, and seeing some of the brilliant avatars that they have created.  Hopefully we’ll be able to share with you something of the range and depth of avatar creation that they offer … and discovering how (and why) they do this at such astonishingly low prices too.

But there’s more to Grendel’s Children than the avatars, and we’ll also be looking at thefour sims that make up Avaria, where the people behind Grendel’s Children have created a rich and complex landscape where you can not only try out your avatars, but where you can also join a variety of interactive games, including surfing in space – which Elrik gets a chance to try.  And, of course, Saffia takes the opportunity to explore the underwater world with some spectacular companions!

Join us in our Northpoint studio at 2pm SLT today, Monday 1st November as we visit the Lunatorium – the environment created by Bavid Dailey and Lunata Lupino.

Lunata creates plants – but plants that are unique to Second Life in that they are all delicately hand textured.  Each plant is a work of art, looking like a painting by Marianne North or Margaret Mee.  The delicacy of the work is utterly superb – and we’ll be looking at this in the show.

We’ll also be taking a look at the underwater regions she has created, working with scripter Bavid Dailey, and meeting some of the beautiful sea creatures that haunt this area.

Bavid has also created an extremely useful tool for shopping – the Personal Assistant – which would help customers quickly locate what they were looking for in larger stores.  It comes with all sorts of surprising and very useful extras – and we’ll be exploring this on the show!

All in all, this is a beautiful and very interesting show – make sure that you don’t miss it!

Come and join the viewing party today in our Northpoint studios for Designing Worlds – on a new day! From now on, Designing Worlds will be filmed live at 2pm on MONDAY rather than Tuesday.  Please put the new day in your calendars.

Join us in our Northpoint studio at 2pm SLT as this week we are taking a step back in time – and we’re having a lot of fun doing it!

Back in 2008, when Treet TV was called SLCN, Designing Worlds was known as Meta Makeover and – in many of our shows – we would do home makeovers where we asked top designers to make over someone’s home (or, occasionally, their garden).

This week we are bringing you another such show!

Cinders Vale has her own small gallery and store, and is an enthusiastic follower of treasure hunts across the grid, but is perhaps best known to people as a tireless campaigner for Relay for Life. She had a great house and furniture given her by friends, but she’s never really pulled it all together to make a home – it was just separate rooms – she’s never even got round to having a bedroom!

So – we contacted Leyla Firefly, the owner of the beautiful furniture store of Belle Belle and asked her if she could create a home that would be be a place where Cinders could feel truly at home!

Tune in today, Monday 18th November at 2pm, to find out how successful Leyla was – and to learn of a very generous donation to next year’s Relay for Life.

There will also be a display by Leyla in the Exhibition Hall – and a chance to buy the beautiful furniture featured on the show – as well as a special gift for those who attend the show.

The show starts at 2pm SLT, but you should be in our Northpoint studios by 1.30pm at the very latest to make sure of getting a seat as this is likely to be a very popular show. And there will be special gifts for all who attend the show in the studio!

Come and join the viewing party for our show – on a new day! From now on, Designing Worlds will be filmed live at 2pm on MONDAY rather than Tuesday.  Please put the new day in your calendars.

Join us in our Northpoint studio at 2pm SLT this week on Monday 11th October as we host a discussion on the very important subject of Mesh.

Designing Worlds studio

Designing Worlds studio

Mesh is coming to Second Life – and it’s causing some controversy among content creators.  But what is Mesh? How will it affect content creation? How will we upload mesh? Will we need Viewer 2 to be able even to see it at all?  Jack Linden, the Executive Director of Product at Linden Lab will be in the studio to explain Mesh to us … and also to answer questions on how Mesh will work.  Jack is responsible for development of the main Second Life Consumer Product lines (Land, eCommerce, Subscription and Search) from the product management, requirement definition and planning through to implementation, and it was he who announced the Mesh Open Beta beginning on October 13th – which makes our programme very timely!

Equally important, to many, are the social and entrepreneurial implications of this important new development. Dusan Writer, the owner of Metanomics and Remedy Communications and a founding partner in Startled Cat, is also a leading virtual worlds blogger (Dusan Writer’s Metaverse). He sees Mesh as, in his words, a ‘game-changer’ – and he will be with us to discuss his reasoning – and also to answer your questions.

All in all, we think we can promise a fascinating show!

We also have three great displays in the Exhibition hall. The lovely vargo and stall from Grey Kurka of The Curious Prim has been joined by a lovely display with the cutest little house from Marcus Inkpen and Sharni Azalee of The Looking Glass. And there’s also a range of really excellent information from Virtual Ability on how builders can help!
