Resident Builds at SL17B, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont

Designing Worlds at SL17B, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont

Today, Monday 27th July, Designing Worlds is paying the second of two visits to the Second Life Seventeenth Birthday Community Celebration (SL17B) for the last show of the season. Two weeks ago, we looked at the Linden builds; in this show, we’ll be looking at resident builds – just a few, because there were so many wonderful ones!

Join us at 2pm  when you can see the show on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel at: https://vimeo.com/channels/dworlds and on the Designing Worlds channel at SLArtist at: https://www.slartist.com/browse-dw-videos-1-date.html. Or join us for our Watch Party in the Designing Worlds studios at 2pm SLT.

And here is a little taster – a video shot and edited by Saffia that didn’t make it into the main show …

SL17B Dawn Kingdoms from Saffia Widdershins on Vimeo.

In the show, we look at the sites that we were involved with – Designing Worlds, One Billion Rising in Second Life, and two exhibits related to Fantasy Faire – the Fantasy Faire LitFest site (complete with Hugh the Troll) and the Fantasy Faire Radio site. And we talk to some of the creators of the exhibits, – the artists Fiona Fei and Ilyra Chardin, and our own Wildstar Beaumont who had a special gallery exhibit, which is really another of “our team sites”!

We also talk to people who are involved in creating sites for communities – Victor Mornington with a site to introduce people to New Babbage, and Asia Connell with the same mission for Camp Italia. And we explore a number of other sites too, both with film and with a fantastic photographic slideshow from Wildstar Beaumont.

Sadly, the Birthday event is now over, but we hope the show will help you re-live it … or sigh over parts you missed! It makes for a beautiful and highly interesting show so do tune in or join us at 2pm SLT at the Watch Party in Garden of Dreams!

Saffia and Sophia

Saffia and Sophia

In this episode of Designing Worlds we’re paying a visit to Carrie Tatsu and the amazing Zooby’s, home of animated virtual pets and, even more famously, virtual babies, to learn all about the release of her latest project – animesh babies!

The show goes live on Monday 25th March at 2pm SLT on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel and on the Designing Worlds channel at SLArtist – and you can join the special Watch Party (also at 2pm SLT) in our studio on Garden of Dreams.

Here is a taster:

We’ll be seeing how Carrie Tatsu has developed her business from her earliest prim dogs back in 2007 up to the stunning animesh babies that she is about to release. We learn all about what they can do; the ideas behind their creation; and how Carrie prizes above all the experiences they offer.

In addition to discovering more about her impressive new line of Animesh babies, we learn that Carrie is an accomplished businesswoman in Second Life. We hear the story of her business and gain many insights, including her views on Second Life and where virtual worlds are heading.

Saffia gets her own baby, and learns how to create a mini Saffia of her own. Be afraid … be very afraid …

It’s a fascinating show looking at the evolution of a popular Second life business, and also at how new techniques can be integrated in exciting ways, so please tune in or join us at 2pm SLT.

Be warned – the animesh babies will not be on sale until towards the end of April. We predict lots of Easter babies this year on the grid!

Carrie has also made a series of videos about the new animesh babies which you can watch on her channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZvJFGz24EDurqkciHSTQtw

Vir Linden talks about animesh

Vir Linden talks about animesh

In this episode of Designing Worlds we’re looking at a new development in Second Life – Animesh! It allows the animation of mesh objects that are separate from an avatar, but with many of the same characteristics.

The show goes live on Monday 11th March at 2pm SLT on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel and on the Designing Worlds channel at SLArtist – and you can join the special Watch Party (also at 2pm SLT) in our studio on Garden of Dreams.

And remember – the clocks have gone back in the United States – so for much of the world, the show will an hour earlier.

In the show, we ask what Animesh actually is, and Vir Linden, from Linden Lab, gives us an in-depth interview with detailed information about the whole animesh project, and answers creators’ questions. In addition, meet a selection of animesh creators including Carrie Tatsu, Aki Shichiroji and scripter Medhue Simoni.

You can see a trailer for tonight’s show here:

This is a really important (and exciting!) show – so so please tune in or join us at 2pm SLT.

In this week’s Designing Worlds, we’re looking at a sadly all too real phenomenon: when people disappear from Second Life and – often – from real life too.

The show goes live on Monday 18th February at 2pm SLT on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel and on the Designing Worlds channel at SLArtist – and you can join the special Watch Party (also at 2pm SLT) in our studio on Garden of Dreams.

Here’s a short preview of today’s show:

In the show, we’ll be discussing what legacy they leave behind, and what steps we should be taking to protect our legacy – and make sure our friends understand what has happened.

We’ll be talking to Jo Yardley, who has written a fascinating article on this issue, and other people – KT Syakumi, Kess Viiperi, Adele Ward and Stevie Basevi – who have been affected too both by people who have died, and people who have suddenly disappeared, sometimes with devastating consequences for those who knew them, worked with them, and loved them.

We think you’ll find it a fascinating show, so please tune in or join us at 2pm SLT.

In this episode, brought to you from a special studio constructed for us by Eliza Weirwight of Patron, we take a look at some outstanding winter locations in Second Life.

DW388 – SL Winter Places 2018 from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

We talk to Eliza herself and look at some of her special seasonal products at the Patron store; we talk to Kess Viiperi about her winter landscaping vlogging (as she demonstrates how to create a wonderful wintry landscape of your own – you can see her decorating video in full here); and we meet up with Tymus Tenk of Calas Galadhon and take a detailed tour of their winter regions. You’ll be amazed at the changes since our last show there, when we visited for Halloween!

Arcachon Harbour

Arcachon Harbour – would you like to see it again?

Do you have a favourite Designing Worlds show? Or even a favourite moment on one of our shows?

As we come up to our 200 episode (yes – that’s coming up very shortly!) we are planning a show of clips from our favourite shows … but what was YOUR favourite moment?

Venexia

Will the dark secrets of Venexia be your choice?

Maybe it’s a moment from one of our Babbage shows …. maybe from one of the Fantasy Faires. Maybe its one of our encounters with the future in Insilico or Araxes.  Perhaps its one of our visits to an educational project – for example, the medical centre at Imperial College London, or the Mayo Clinic.

Flying Tigers in the air: photograph by Wildstar Beaumont

Do you want to see the brave Flying Tigers in the air? Photograph by Wildstar Beaumont

Perhaps it’s a historical reconstruction like 1920s Berlin or The Coeurs. Or it could be a visit to a different grid like Inworldz, Heritage Key or Cloud Party.  Or maybe just somewhere that is very lovely like Calas Galadhon or The Looking Glass.

Let us know by sending an email to designingworlds@gmail.com by Sunday 11th May, and let us know what YOU would like to see again.  Or add your thoughts in the comments here instead!

Terracotta Warriors in the Museum

Perhaps you want to see the Terracotta Warriors in the Museum on Heritage Key!
