The first showing of Happy Hunting! will be today at 3pm. It should go out at 3pm on Treet TV – and we will be having a viewing party in our fabulous studio on Garden of Dreams 2. However, as this is our very first show, we are making preparations for technical glitches, and have prepared a back-up location where you’ll be able to see the show. We’ll release details of that at 3pm, if there is a problem with getting it on to the Treet stream today.

Happy Hunting! is the new show from treet.tv, all about hunts in Second Life and other virtual worlds. The show is presented by Cinders Vale, well-known as the RFL Survivors/Caregivers chair. She’s joined by Frequency Picnic, our Hunt News Reporter.

Get your low-lag Happy Hunting! teeshirt at today’s show!

In each show we have news of ongoing and upcoming hunts, tips, advice, and shout-outs for hunts that are looking for participants. We show items that have caught our eye, as well as interviews with some of the people behind the hunts.

Ivy Maverick

Ivy Maverick

Our guest today is Ivy Maverick. Ivy is co-owner of the Menstuff and Womenstuff hunts with Rob1977 Moonites. The Menstuff hunt is one of the most popular men’s fashion hunts on the grid and starts this week. The highly anticipated Womenstuff hunt is brand new and will start in the New Year.

If you would like to find out more, the blogs are at http://stuff-sl.com/womenstuff/ and http://stuff-sl.com/menstuff/.

The blogs and the Menstuff/Womenstuff Lounge are a great resource for fashion freebies and info!

And don’t miss the competition on today’s show!

It’s called Where in the World is MarkTwain White? and before each show, Mark (the man behind the popular Sail On programme and maker of RFL films) will be placing a little gnome statue somewhere on the grid and taking a picture. That photo will be shown on the show, and a couple of exclusive clues will be given by Mark and Cinders. Viewers will have to identify the location and complete the entry form on the blog—and the winner will be announced on the following show. The prize is L$2,000.

And there will be a special extra clue appearing on this website shortly!

When you access the Treet site, you’ll be connected to Treet Mobile, which allows you to stream the latest Treet shows on your device.

In the past, you could download Treet shows from iTunes and then watch them, but Treet Mobile makes it even easier to catch up on recent shows and – because Treet shows are available in hi-def, the quality is wonderful, as Wildstar Beaumont’s picture shows!

more about “Playing Designing Worlds :: Steelhead…“, posted with vodpod

This week, we visited the stunningly lovely sim of Steelhead Shanghai – and you can now see the show on the web – here, and available in both standard and high quality. And you can also download the show from the iTunes store (just search on Designing Worlds) to watch at your leisure. You can even put it on your iPod to carry around with you (or watch at the gym!).

The Steelhead area is part of those regions popularly known as the Steamlands which combine elements of a vintage lifestyle with a steampunk ethos.  Steelhead, however, has a great deal of diversity and strong fantasy elements (after all, one of the owners and creative forces behind the region is a Moon Elf!).

Based on Oregon of the late nineteenth century, its latest area owes much to the influx of Chinese workers who travelled to Oregon to be part of the teams working on the great transcontinental railroads, and who subequently left their mark in the ‘Chinatowns’ of large American cities.  Perhaps there are elements to of the pulp fiction of the times, where the mysterious Orient came into juxtaposition with the brash new West.

Join Saffia and Elrik as they explore this richly fascinating region, accompanied by the owners of Steelhead, TotalLunar Eclipse and Tensai Hira.  There’s news of an exciting planned expansion for the Steelhead region.  And we also meet Elegia Underwood, proprietress of the Dragonlands hotel, who introduces Elrik to some secrets deep in her cellars …

BB-logo-white-noprimleftbehind400As part of their planning to move from Second Life to an OpenSim grid, UK-based Rezzable developed a special tool, called BuilderBot, to help them save their existing SL properties and restore them on another grid.

BuilderBot is able to copy an entire sim, and Rezzable decided that they were going to release the tool, in free and paid versions, for others to use.

This has caused a great deal of controversy, not least because, at least initially, Rezzable intended to release the tool with no checking of ownership (it wasn’t something they needed as they were only copying their own IP).

What kind of a threat, if any, does this represent to builders, designers and other content-creators in Second Life? Do designers need to redefine what “full perms” means in a multi-VW environment? What’s the future of intellectual property in today’s expanding metaverse?

In the next edition of Designing Worlds, on August 4, we’re going to look at the whole BuilderBot question. We’ve lined up some interesting people to talk from both sides of the issue and we hope you’ll join us in our Northpoint studio on Tuesday, August 4 at 2pm SLT for the live panel discussion.

But before that, we’d like to know what you think about BuilderBot. Please give us your observations as a comment to this post and we’ll bear your observations in mind as we question the participants.

If you would like to read up on the background, here’s Rezzable’s original announcement; their followup when they changed some of their plans; New World Notes’ writeup of the story; and NPIRL’s discussion of the topic.

Now it’s your turn! Tell us what you think.

Saffia celebrates in Gina

Saffia celebrates in Gina

The dress that Saffia wore for the SkyDancers show was from Neferia Abel of L’Abel and Ivalde – but there’s a rather unusual story attached to it.

“This was a special release from Neferia,” says Saffia.  “Although the dress is called Gina, it’s actually a celebration dress – and a joint celebration at that!”

The 17th May was Norway’s Independence Day celebration, but as well as that, they won the Eurovision Song Contest (a very popular show in a Europe that includes,  a little unexpectedly, not only Israel, but ALL of Russia.  So Neferia, as a Norwegian, gave this lovely dress to her group so they could celebrate too!

“This has lovely extravagant sleeves,” says Saffia, “and I also love the rich texturing of the material – plus the detailing on the neck.  And the system skirt was very useful for a lot of acrobatics!”

Don’t forget, even though our show is now called Designing Worlds, we are still doing our Meta Makeovers, where we bring in a top designer to make over your virtual home or garden!

So if you would like to have a virtual home or garden given the treatment by a top designer, send an email to us at metamakeover@gmail.com with three or four pictures of your home or garden attached, and stating your reasons why you would like a makeover.

And if you know a special place in Second Life that we should really feature on the show, drop us a line too!
