Designing Worlds returns to one of our favourite locations – Calas Galadhon – to learn all about the FlyGearz dance troupe who are based there. And we couldn’t resist the opportunity to catch up with Tymus Tenk and Truck Meredith and learn all about their build of the New Santorini!

In this show we talk to Jenna Dirval and DaveOSaurus of FlyGearz, the dance troupe with a base on the Calas Galadhon estate. We take the opportunity of learning how the group was formed and the special immersive, interactive shows that they create. We take a trip to their steamship, the beautiful Alice, and we even have the opportunity of taking part in some of their performances!

Then we take the opportunity to relax with a bottle of wine and a chat with the owners of the Calas Galadhon estate, old friends of Designing Worlds, Truck Meredith and Tymus Tenk. They tell us all about the return of their creation of the Greek island of Santorini (located on Eriador), now complete with beautiful furnished homes, with fascinating back stories.

So we just had to round off with a special Greek dance with FlyGearz in celebration!

Today is February 14th – traditionally Valentine’s Day – but for the last ten years it has also been One Billion Rising in Second Life – a four region collection of art, music, poetry and dance to celebrate and raise awareness.

So today we’ll be looking back ten years to that very first One Billion Rising in Second Life. But at 2pm SLT, Elrik Merlin will be playing a set at this year’s One Billion Rising in Second Life on the Stage at OBR Unite – and we invite you to come and join us – and watch the video later!

In 2013, we took several peeks behind the scenes at how the event One Billion Rising in Second Life was created – and how the music video “Break the Chain” was created in Second Life as well!

We will be filming this year’s event, which we’ll be showing later in the season.

Designing Worlds returns to the Second Life Endowment for the Arts (SLEA), a year after its triumphant opening, to see preparations for the fabulous Crystal Carnival, the Second Annual Celebration of the Arts.

In this episode, the first in our 2022 season, we return to see how the project has developed, and to discover what’s in store at the Crystal Carnival, SLEA’s extensive and impressive Second Annual Celebration of the Arts.

We talk to SLEA Co-ordinator Tansee and to some of the artists (such as Mario2 Helstein) as well as those working behind the scenes (exploring the Music Lab with Livio Korbase and Kalcya), and we take a look at some impressive multimedia installations and other artworks.

A Bellisseria Fantasy Home, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont

Catch up with the discussion – when Designing Worlds met with Patch Linden, Vice President, Product Operations and Brett Linden, Vice President of Marketing at Linden Lab, to talk about some developing projects – and the possibilities of the sudden popularity of and conversations about the metaverse.

We started off in the newest area of Bellisseria, which we first saw at this year’s Second Life Birthday celebrations – the Fantasy homes. We discovered the magnificent Community Centre – The Eyrie – and the progress of Linden Homes, as well as current interest in the metaverse. And the wonderful photoshoot from Wildstar Beaumont was all about the fantasy Linden Homes.

Then we moved on to discuss and explore current joint projects between Linden Lab and third parties, bringing new experiences to Second Life: Film Threat and Zenescope. And we also talked about what the future might hold for virtual worlds in general and Second Life in particular.

ChangHigh Sisters, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont

Join us today, Monday 6th December 2021 at 2pm SLT in our beautiful studio in Garden of Dreams as we journey back into the past for an episode first shown in January 2012, when we explored the world of the spectacular ChangHigh Sisters – a performing arts troupe who are well-known to this day throughout Second Life, where their popular performances draw significant audiences.

You can watch the episode on this blog, and you can also see it on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel at https://vimeo.com/171900078 and you can join the special Watch Party at 2pm SLT in our studio on Garden of Dreams.

Elrik and Saffia try some of the Sisters’ acrobatic poses themselves, and discover a little of the deep spiritual and esoteric background behind the ChangHigh Sisters’ Fireshow of Light, Life & Love.

The programme culminates with the Sisters’ unique show – staged especially for Designing Worlds – of stunning acrobatics with fire and dazzling colours, including inspiring narration and music from leading in-world and RL composers and musicians.

Join us today, Monday 15th November 2021 at 2pm SLT in our beautiful studio in Garden of Dreams as we journey way back into the past for an episode first shown in July 2016, when we visited the beautiful island of Rocca Sorrentina, an imagining of a late eighteenth century island in the Bay of Naples.

You can watch the episode on this blog, and you can also see it on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel at https://vimeo.com/171900078 and you can join the special Watch Party at 2pm SLT in our studio on Garden of Dreams.

We are joined by two of the people behind Rocca Sorrentina (or Principal Magistrates as they are called) Aldo Stern and Sere Timeless. They take us on a journey of discovery as we learn about the rich culture that flourished in the Kingdom of Naples (much visited on the Grand Tour), and the history that lay behind it, reaching back to the lost cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius.

And we also learn about the culture and exhibitions staged by Rocca Sorrentina, as Elrik explores a fascinating exhibition on the history of the Tarot … and we learn of upcoming exhibitions too.

Join us at 2pm SLT to learn more of this fascinating community by tuning in or by coming to the Watch Party in Garden of Dreams!
