Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 18th June, for the new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams in Second Life, when we look back at the One Billion Rising in Second Life festival, held on February 14th 2018.

Regular viewers will remember that this year our spring season was a series of retrospectives, celebrating ten years of Designing Worlds. We promised you then that we WOULD be sharing a show about OBR later in the year. Well, this is it!

We looks at the events linked with OBR – the dance, the poetry, the music and the art. This year too we had the #MeToo Forest, where women could share their experiences, and the White Rose Challenge, in support of the Time’s Up movement.

What is One Billion Rising?

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.

Every February, we rise – in hundreds of countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face.  We rise through dance to express joy and community and and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.

And we here in Second Life are part of this global movement.

Make sure you don’t miss it – by joining us at 2pm SLT.
