Today, Monday 4th April, Designing Worlds pays a second visit to the Second Life Home and Garden Expo, which, sadly, is now closed. The premium event for Home and Garden designers in Second Life (and breedables too!), Designing Worlds has long been a supporter – and a sponsor too.

From 2pm today you can see the show on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel at: https://vimeo.com/channels/dworlds. Or you can join us for our Watch Party in the beautiful Designing Worlds studios in the Garden of Dreams!

In this show, we look at the very popular Decorating Contest, which Designing Worlds sponsored, where competitors had to decorate a home of their choice. We were joined by some of the designers (Liz Wilner, Aphra Hendrix, Mystic Blackbart and Melina Firehawk) who told us about their designs, and how they managed to great great homes with only 450 land impact!

Then with the aid of our terrific machinematographer Bain Finch,, we explore the sixteen homes (and after the showing – we’ll tell you who won!).

We also talk to designers Elizabeth Burleigh, whose store is the Blue Moon Atelier Gallery, and Ethy Ðrαgoste Fιяεнαωк-Knight, whose store is The Crystal Witch – and who is also one of the Expo Organisers about their experiences of the Expo.

And we take a visit to two favourite stores (Little Big Designs and Kaerri’s) before we head for the very special lantern ceremony that takes place each day at the Expo.

It makes for a fascinating show that you won’t want to miss, so come to the Watch Party in Garden of Dreams or tune in to watch on the web!

In this episode, Designing Worlds visited the Second Life Home and Garden Expo, an annual event we have supported since 2009.

In this show we talk to the organiser of the Expo – Kaerri Rae, and learn about various aspects of the event. We look at some of the great international-themed builds we saw at the Expo this year, with a film from Bain Finch, while Wildstar Beaumont shares photographs of some of the amazing gardens and landscaping that was on display. And we meet up with DaveOSaurus to take a look at Waffleville, the community area for tinies and dinkies.

Designing Worlds sponsored the Home and Garden Decorating Contest, and in this episode we take a look at the undecorated homes (thanks to Wildstar’s pictures!). We’ll be showing you what the decorated homes looked like in our second Homes and Garden Expo show – to be shown in two weeks time.

And finally we will the Lantern Ceremony, held every day at 4pm, a time for reflection and remembrance.

Prim Perfect at the Home and Garden Expo in 2009

The Home and Garden Expo opened last Saturday – but in today’s Designing Worlds show, we’re going to be looking back to the very first show we filmed at the Expo – that was the second Home and Garden Expo in 2009.

Join us today, Monday 28th February 2022 at 2pm SLT in our beautiful studio in Garden of Dreams, or watch the show on the web, either here on the blog or on Vimeo at https://vimeo.com/371353284.

It’s a chance to see what Second Life looked like back in 2009, and compare the latest homes, furniture and garden products on sale then – with the way that Second Life Homes look today (to say nothing of the avatars!). In fact, this was the very first episode of Designing Worlds, the rebranding of MetaMakeover, as our partners SLCN changed over to being Treet TV.

The Expo on Palladium

The 2009 Expo was twice the size of the 2008 Expo consisting of four regions and 55 different participating stores. Our sister publication Prim Perfect had a pavilion at the show where they’showcased new designers as part of their Prim Perfect Pathfinders project – and you can read about the show in much more detail here: http://bit.ly/32lAidp (although we wouldn’t recommend you trying to teleport to any of the links!

The Expo on Iridium

But here ARE some links you can use – the current Second Life Home and Garden Expo opened on Saturday, and will be running until March 20th.

See more here: https://slhomeandgardenexpo.wordpress.com/ – and check out the Links to the various regions!

And don’t miss your chance to enter the this year’s Home Decorating Contest!

This year there are sixteen very different styles of homes on Hope Street on Home & Garden Expo – Hope1http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hope%201/217/24/23. There are moderns, historic builds, rustic homes, and even some water-based homes (a houseboat and a pirate ship). There are three tiny homes in very different styles too!

House 14: Tour de Marlborough and dairy by Silex zapedzki of Never Totally Dead, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont

These homes will be decorated by sixteen contestants who will have 350 prims (land impact) each to decorate the Home and the surrounding Garden area.

Each contestant can decorate in any style they wish that suits their house, but they MUST include at least three items purchased from RFL vendors at the Home and Garden Expo.

House 9: Houseboat Calypso by Christhiana of Needful Prims, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont

Timetable:

  1. Entries to be submitted by the end of March 4th
  2. Decorating to take place between noon on March 5th – the end of March 12th.
  3. Voting will run from March 13th – the end of March 19th. Votes will be placed by adding Lindens into the kiosk in front of each house.
  4. The result will be announced on March 20th.

To enter, fill in the form on the web: https://forms.gle/ttKRqNVSJG8Dm1F96 OR complete the notecard embedded in the easels around Hope Street, or in the signs for the individual houses and post it in one of the blue mailboxes by the end of Friday, March 4th.

We also have a whistlestop tour of some of the places that really caught Saffia’s eye as she raced around the Expo very early each morning performing rolling restarts on the regions (or, as she referred to it, taking the regions for their early morning showers!), and, of course, a glorious slideshow from Wildstar Beaumont. Finally, we end with the traditional lantern ceremony that marks each day of the Expo – as it has done since 2012.

Danny Bourne’s House, with the interior design by Pitsch Parx

Join Designing Worlds at 2pm SLT Monday 15th March for this week’s show from the archives which goes right back to January 2011. The Second Life Home and Garden Expo is happening at present (running until March 21st – see more here: https://slhomeandgardenexpo.wordpress.com/) and some notable designers from the past have returned, including Pitsch Parx and Danny Bourne. This show is a salute to a beautiful house and terrific interior design that the two of them created.

#113 Designing a Second life Home with Pitsch Parx – 31st January 2011 from Saffia Widdershins on Vimeo.

You can watch it on this blog, and you can also see the show on the Designing Worlds Vimeo Archive channel at: https://vimeo.com/373065980. And you can join the special Watch Party (at 2pm SLT, Monday 25th February) in our studio on Garden of Dreams. Note that since US clocks have gone forward, this will be an hour earlier for everyone else!

We met pitsch Parx of UrbanizeD, whose interior design concept this beautiful home was, and he gave us a guided tour of the house. We will also met Danny Bourne, the creator of the building, and Charlene Trudeau, owner and manager of SkyBeam Estates.

The house attracted attention in the blogsphere at the time, and you can read more about it here on Chic at Phil’s Place, but today viewers will have a chance to see it in detail! Incidentally, Chic Aeon, the writer of that blog post, is one of the contestants in the Home and Garden Decoration Contest at this year’s Expoyou can go and discover all fourteen houses here!

Home and Garden Expo – May 2009!

There are quite a few changes from that show to the Expo this year – as you’ll be able to see in future episodes, as we are broadcasting two shows from this year’s Expo later this season. But, for now, relax and enjoy The Way We Were!
