Now available on the web – our latest episode, the second of our two visits to the amazing Fantasy Faire.

Saffia talked to designers Kayle Matzerath and Marcus Inkpen about the regions that they created, while Elrik learned about the amazing Fantasy Faire radio (and its rather unusual studio) from Zander Greene, and then had an escorted tour of the famed (notorious?) Explorers’ Club (Oriental Branch) by Martini Discovalante.

In fact, you can vote for us … and many, many of the people we have featured in Prim Perfect magazine, or on Designing Worlds or Happy Hunting. In short – the Avi Choice Awards represent a fantastic array of Second Life talent – and all nominated by the people behind avatars out there on the grid.

But don’t just take our word for it … go to the Avi Choice Award site and register your votes for all the categories that you want. It’s divided into four areas:

We’re in Entertainment – and you’ll see that Prim Perfect is nominated in the Best Magazine category, while Designing Worlds and Happy Hunting both feature in best TV show.

And if you are regularly readers (or viewers) you will doubtless recognise many of the names of nominees too!

The whole process culminates in an amazing awards presentation on December 14th from 6pm SLT onwards, a highlight of the Second Life Christmas Expo. Elrik and Saffia (hosts of Designing Worlds) presented part of the programme of awards in 2011, and we are hugely honoured to have been asked to do this again – and this year, we’ll be joined by Aisling Sinclair and Zander Greene, stars of The Blackened Mirror. Zander, of course, is the holder of the individual Spirit of Relay Award for Relay for Life of Second Life 2012 – and the funds raised by the Expo will go to support Relay for Life of Second Life 2013.

Join us at 2pm today, Monday 28th May, for a episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams which looks at two businesses that are planning to transition from virtual to real worlds – and we also look at how such projects can be funded through Kickstarters.

The White Armory

The White Armory

The first of these is The White Armory – a well known store that specialises in medieval weaponry and beautiful costumes created by Colton Drechster and Bee Dumpling respectively.

The second is Jazzpaws, the initiative by Zayn Till and Wynx Whiplash of the tinies of Raglanshire, whose recent Kickstarter project garnered a great amount of interest across the grid.

We’ll be discussing these projects, and talking with Maria Korolov of Hypergrid Business about this new style of business transfer and the use of Kickstarter (and similar) funding.

It makes for a striking and very unusual show – so do come and join us at 2pm!

Join us today, Monday 21st May at 2pm SLT in our beautiful studio in Garden of Dreams as we visit the Virtual Mine, a fascinating project in Second Life, created by Sand Castles Studios, in association with the Deep Down Mine documentary film.

The town of Maytown - and the polluting power station beyond

We’ll be talking to one of the makers of the documentary – Jen Gilomen, and to Gianna Borgnine of Sand Castle studios, as we explore the background to the creation of this region and the documentary, and then explore the area, looking at the issues it raises about the need for power, the cost of mountaintop mining, and the alternatives that could provide the needed power and employment, with far fewer environmental costs.

It makes for a fascinating show – so do come and join us at 2pm!

In this episode, the first of a new season of Designing Worlds, Saffia and Elrik visit one of the most intrepid – and largest – flying groups in Second Life: the Flying Tigers, whose amazing planes and re-creations of combat in aircraft from the Second World War are matched only by the astonishing story of the original Flying Tigers in real life.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

See the planes on the ground and in action – including exciting air combat re-creations, aerobatics and fly-pasts in vintage and modern aircraft; visit the Academy; learn the stories of both the historical and virtual Tigers from some of the latter’s key personnel – and discover how you can become a Flying Tiger yourself!
