In this episode, brought to you from a special studio constructed for us by Eliza Weirwight of Patron, we take a look at some outstanding winter locations in Second Life.

The show goes live on Monday 10th December at 2pm SLT on the Designing Worlds Vimeo channel and on the Designing Worlds channel at SLArtist – and you can join the special Watch Party (also at 2pm SLT) in our studio on Garden of Dreams.

We talk to Eliza herself and look at some of her special seasonal products; we talk to Kess Viiperi about her winter landscaping vlogging (as she demonstrated how to create a wonderful wintry landscape of your own); and we meet up with Tymus Tenk of Calas Galadhon and take a detailed tour of their winter regions. You’ll be amazed at the changes since our last show there, when we visited for Halloween!

We also look at Linden Lab’s own Winter Wonderland experience and elsewhere, and cover further winter-themed locations in a seasonally stunning slideshow from Wildstar Beaumont.

Join our Watch Party for a fun time, or watch it on the web!

Our visit to the Second Life Cheerleading Squad on Cheertopia to learn about how they have created a powerful, generous and fun community is now available online!

DW387 – Second Life Cheerleaders from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

Our guide is Brandi Darkwatch, who is a Senior Co-Captain of the Cheerleaders, and she tells us about the amazing Cheerleading community, their training sessions and their work for charities including Cake Against Cancer and, above all, for Relay for Life.

We learn about not just the main Cheerleading Squad, but also their younger cohort, the Comets (for teenagers) and the adorable youngest group – the Spitfires, who we’ll see perform.

Our fascinating show visiting the stunningly beautiful Majesterium estate is now available online!

DW386 – Majesterium Riviera Estate from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

It’s the home of His Majesty Brick Masters, and we visited just over a year ago, but since then His Majesty has totally overhauled this and has had a fantastic new mansion built for him by the renowned Second Life architect Patch Thibaud – and the result is spectacular!

Not only is the building is a fine example of virtual world architecture and design at its best, but the interiors form a beautiful synergy with the architecture, building to a holistic design triumph – which is also a beautiful home.

His Majesty welcomes visitors – you’ll find the gates of his Estate here – and at the pier, the gondola will be waiting to carry you across to the island, if you want to arrive in style (and who doesn’t?)

Certain areas of the house are private. They are roped off and marked – please respect this.

And there’s something else not to be missed – hiding away in the sky above the house is an amazing funfair with a great many attractions!

Once or twice a year, at various charity events, we auction Designing Worlds shows to raise money for the charity in question, and this year, His Majesty was one of the winners of the auction at Fantasy Faire – and this is his very special show. Two more will be coming next season.

The LEA

The LEA

Come January 1st 2019, the Linden Endowment for the Arts, known as the LEA, will be temporarily closing its Artists in Residence regions (LEA 10 – 29) to allow for a major restructuring.

Over the last seven years, these regions have been open for artists who apply to build their dreams, each for a six month grant. We have seen many great installations here – and some that have attracted controversy.

The LEA

The LEA

The nine Core regions (which include the Theatre, the Sandbox and Photohunt) will remain for the present, and short-term grants will still be available in these regions for community-inspired arts projects.

Applications for Core regions can be made here:

The LEA

The LEA

Discussions between the present Committee and Linden Lab about the future form of the LEA are ongoing, but it is anticipated that there will be a new organising committee when the AiR regions re-open.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) was established to help create a center of arts activity in Second Life. It is a collaborative venture between Linden Lab and the arts community. Guided by a dedicated board of renowned Second Life artists, the LEA is committed to providing access to engaging experiences in the arts for the Second Life community. Through its exhibitions, programs, and events, the LEA fosters awareness of artists’ contributions to our virtual world and encourages others to get involved and be inspired.
