Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 20th March, for the new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams, when we’ll be returning to the fascinating Second Life Museum of Nuclear Warfare for a Second visit.

You can see the earlier visit here.  In today’s episode, we join the Director and Curator of the Museum, OtakuSenpai Button to take a look at how different nations have tackled the idea of civil defence against the dangers of nuclear warfare, and memorials at the Museum to the results of nuclear accidents. We conclude with a deeply moving display of drawings created by children who survived the horrors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It’s a fascinating show – both in terms of the content Otaku has gathered, and also in terms of demonstrating how Second Life can be used for a learning experience.

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – a very special show, dedicated to Elicio Ember and a special event called Filling the Cauldron – is now on the web!

Elicio’s father has suffered a major stroke, and the family is struggling to meet medical costs associated with his treatment. Since then various groups of people have been putting together ideas, and we’re pleased to announce that we now have THREE ways in which people can and will be able to help Elicio and his family.

Today’s show is therefore a repeat of the show we made last year about Elicio and his work, and his wonderful region – Cerridwen’s Cauldron, a place well worth exploring and at that time newly updated! But we’ve given it a special introduction to explain the situation, and what YOU can do to help.

And full details are also printed at the bottom of this post.

So please join us for a beautful and very special show at 2pm SLT.

Or – if you can’t attend in person – tune in to the web at 2pm SLT on Monday for a showing on SLartist – or catch it later in the week on the SLArtist.com channel, the Aview TV Designing Worlds channel – or on the Designing Worlds blog.

On Tuesday March 14th at 1pm SLT, we’ll be recording a very special show in the Designing Worlds studio on Garden of Dreams – and you’re invited!

We’ll be talking with guests including Patch Linden, of Linden Lab; Arik Metzger, the owner of Innsmouth; Tymus Tenk, the co-owner of Calas Galadhon.

Svarga

Svarga

And we’ll be discussing the how and why of preserving iconic Second Life builds – and what, indeed, makes an iconic Second Life build.

What is Linden Lab’s role in this? Should they have a role? And what can residents on the grid do to preserve the places they love? Just how hard is it to preserve a beloved build?

SS Galaxy

SS Galaxy

We’ll be asking all these questions and more on the show!

It’s looking like being a fascinating discussion so please join us in the studio!

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – when we visit two places – the MadPea International Food Fair, and the amazing cause it is supporting – Feed a Smile, a project of Leben und Lernen in Kenia, Live and Learn in Kenya International – is now on the web!

We visit the Feed a Smile region and talk to Brique Topaz – Brique Zeiner in real life, who is the the Founder and Chairwoman of the German charity Leben und Lernen in Kenia, Live and Learn in Kenya International, whose project Feed a Smile is, and which is based on the shores of Lake Nakuru in Kenya, where they are building a school for local children, through sponsorship of individual children, and through events in Second Life, such as the International Food Fair.

Brique shows us around areas that are re-creations of the work being done on the ground in Africa, and explains how the Food Fair will be supporting the vital work of building a new kitchen for the school, and we’ll be seeing some films of the work as well.

Then we travel to the International Food Fair and join the organiser, Kestrel Keiroz, to learn what is going on there, with stores, an art gallery and regular music events, and we see some of the amazing food-related items you can purchase (with the money going to Feed a Smile).
