In this show, Designing Worlds visited Cain Maven, the designer behind Maven Homes and Quantum Luxury Homes – and enjoyed a good discussion with him too!

DW416 – Cain Maven from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

Cain’s Designs range from the vast (in the Quantum Luxury Homes range) to more modest styles in the Maven Homes range. We talked to him about his design concepts, and explored both types of homes. Can also allowed us a glimpse at the very first home he built – we think you’ll enjoy his caustic comments on his efforts back then!

But his more recent homes range from classical builds to the ultra modern, built with style and class – there is a reason why both brands are so popular!

We also took the time for a longer discussion with Cain on issues such as the new Linden Homes and the sale of Sansar – does Cain see the Sansar project as a waste of time, or as a valuable learning experience (on many levels) for the Lab.

Designing Worlds Special - Murder in the Muirsheen Durkin

Designing Worlds Special – Murder in the Muirsheen Durkin

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 30th December, for a special episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams in Second Life, as we become involved in solving a Murder in the Muirsheen Durkin – a special episode set in New Babbage!

Or you can watch the show in the comfort of your own home at https://vimeo.com/248386254 (in colour) or https://vimeo.com/channels/dworlds/248387796 (in spooky black and white). It’s also available on SLArtist at: https://www.slartist.com/designing-worlds-dw357a-murder-at-the-muirsheen-durkin-special-monochrome-version_2a2ac867f.html.

The Muisheen Durkin is, of course, the restuarant/bar in Brunel Hall, the large hotel thatis part of the business empire of Mr Victor Mornington, the Assistant Maceholder of New Babbage. So when his temporary Christmas barman, Mr Biggins, discovers a murder victim … then they are duty bound to hand over the prime suspect to Miss Bookworm Heinrichs, the head of the Militia.

Investigating the Murder

Investigating the Murder

But has Mr Mornington’s pet rabbit Thumper turned vorpal? Or is there another explanation? Can Miss Widdershins and Mr Merlin help to solve the mystery, or will they just complicate things further?  Fortunately, there’s a formidable forensics expert they can turn to … an expert in her own field.

So do come and join us for our seasonal special at 2pm SLT.

This is a repeat of the show first shown on January 1st, 2018.

In this episode, Designing Worlds explores one of the most popular topics on the internet … at least it was in the early days. For behind sex and shopping in the internet stakes came … genealogy!

DW411 – SL Genealogy from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

Genealogy has been a major interest in Second Life since the very beginning of the platform, and we talk to some of the people who represent a number of the organisations active in the field in-world, from the Second Life Virtual Genealogical Society to the LDS – the Church of the Latter-Day Saints – who are deeply involved in providing free genealogical information in-world and out. And many of the people we talk to are actively involved in genealogy in both worlds too – including Sifriya Devin, Ellington Sweeney, Clarise Beaumont and Skyler Goode .
