The new episode of Designing Worlds, as we continue our celebration of ten years of the show – looking back to 2014 this week – is now on the web!

DW364 – Designing Worlds 10th Anniversary Special #7 – 2014 from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

It was a year when we explore some fascinating locations and projects, ranging from Japanese residents building programs to assist new Japanese-speaking residents, to a glimpse of Arkansas history, courtesy of Arkansas State University (and Painter Merriman), to Yvanna Llanfair’s fascinating podcar tours of the mainland – and, in the Blake Sea, we discovered a beautiful pirate town.

The new episode of Designing Worlds, as we continue our celebration of ten years of the show – looking back to 2013 this week – is now on the web!

DW363 – Designing Worlds 10th Anniversary Special #6 – 2013 from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

It was the start of a new era, with Ebbe Altberg (aka Ebbe Linden) joining Linden Lab early in the year – something that Marianne McCann and Saffia will be discussing as they examine the changes that this made to Second Life – and beyond.

And we’ll be looking at the first iteration of One Billion Rising, the now annual event held in support of the campaign against violence against women.

We’ll also be visiting some well-loved grid locations, including 1920s Berlin and Calas Galahon, and the science fiction location of Araxes, as well as exploring the phenomenon of Second Life Sailing and a fascinating project on the building of the City of Birmingham Public Library (in the UK). And there will be visits to locations no longer with us, such as the beautiful Arcachon.

The new episode of Designing Worlds, as we continue our celebration of ten years of the show – looking back to 2010 – is now on the web!

DW360 – 10th Anniversary Special #3 – 2010 from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

In this episode we look back to 2010. It was billed by Linden Lab as the Year of Delight = and whether or not that was a true prediction will, we hope, emerge within the show. But here are some clues – two changes of CEO, massive lay-offs, viewer wars, rows at the SL7B … it all makes for a fascinating discussion with our resident historian, Marianne McCann.

The Museum (based on the British Museum) in Heritage Key

And there are other treats in the shape of extracts from shows in 2010, including not just Second Life but visits to other grids like the Reaction Grid and the beautiful Heritage Key, as well as fascinating Second Life locations.

And there’s even a little fore-warning of the coming of mesh, with what was a very rare occurrence in those days – the appearance of a Linden on the show!

Sadly, none of the places from this 2010 show remains on the grid, with the exception of the medical centre of Imperial College London, and that is now closed to visitors.
